Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS), in partnership with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS), is looking for outstanding individuals to deliver Additional Qualifications (AQ) courses in the context of Teacher Leadership, Creativity, and Innovation. At the forefront of Canadian creativity education and applied research, FHASS offers an Undergraduate Certificate in Creativity and Creative Problem-Solving, elective courses in creative thinking, an Ontario Graduate Certificate in Applied Creativity and Innovation, and will soon launch a Continuing Teacher Education (Teacher Additional Qualification) program.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering course curriculum asynchronously and in alignment with course objectives, pedagogical approach, and evaluation policies and procedures;
  • Setting clear and transparent expectations and instructions to students, providing student-centric academic support, and collaborating with FHASS Leadership, Support Staff, and Sheridan Student Services as required;
  • Designing active learning strategies and educational experiences using best practices; updating Learning Management System (SLATE) course site and Master sites in collaboration with the FHASS team; utilizing Sheridan resources and supports to continually advance and improve scholarship of teaching and learning;
  • Evaluating student progress/achievement and providing clear formative and summative feedback to students based on objective evaluation of the students’ work; Timely completion of Learning Management System gradebook details; Completing grade entry for official student records according to due dates;
  • Attending periodic Instructor meetings and events; completing mandatory employee training; Compliance with all Sheridan Policies and Procedures.

About You

You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion

You are a self-directed natural leader and have a highly collaborative spirit which, combined with your keen interpersonal skills, empowers you to build positive and collaborative relationships and create and maintain a positive organizational culture.

You have excellent oral and written communication skills and proven effectiveness as an instructor.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education;
  • OCT member in good standing;
  • Minimum 2 years experience teaching in Ontario schools;
  • Extensive and current knowledge of educational programs and policies in Ontario;
  • Scholarly knowledge of the field of Creativity Studies and Creative Problem-Solving methodologies (i.e. research and/or teaching that specifically thematizes creativity as a phenomenon and learnable skill);
  • Demonstrated experience in Leadership and Innovation;
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in the industry is preferred;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment;
  • The following are considered assets:
  • Experience with a recognized creative problem-solving methodology and a solid interdisciplinary bent in the candidate’s field of study;
  • Experience with integrating real-world problems into the classroom, or Problem-Based Interdisciplinary Learning; 
  • Experience with online curriculum design; 
  • Knowledge of global and cross-cultural approaches to creativity.
