Sheridan College’s Centre for Applied AI and McMaster University’s McMaster Centre for Software Certification invites applications for a postdoctoral research position collaborating with Dr. Edward Sykes (Sheridan) and Dr. Richard Paige (McMaster) in the areas of mHealth and AI. This position will be hybrid, consisting of on-campus and remote work.

The successful candidate will work with a team of researchers, undergraduate and graduate students to carry out exciting, industry-focused research in mobile, and/or Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct original research in the field of mobile and AI.
  • Apply AI techniques to real-world problems in collaboration with industry partners.
  • Publish and present research findings in top-tier journals and conferences.
  • Collaborate with other researchers in the team to develop interdisciplinary solutions.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in mobile and AI with emphasis in applications to healthcare.
  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, Swift, Kotlin, React Native, and MATLAB.
  • Experience with AI libraries such as TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, Keras, and PyTorch.
  • Strong publication record in top-tier conferences and journals.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.

This is a part-time postdoctoral position with opportunities to supplement salary through sessional appointments, teaching, and research assistantships.  These activities may take place at either Sheridan College or McMaster University and will consider the strengths and interests of the candidate to find the best match.

Your primary appointment will be at Sheridan’s Centre for Applied AI and expected to work collaboratively with McMaster University, Computing and Software (McMaster Centre for Software Certification (McSCert)). McMaster and Sheridan are in close proximity – a 30-minute commute.

You will receive mentorship and support from Sheridan and McMaster faculty and researchers, and our industry and community partners. Additional opportunities may include teaching and supervision of students and travelling to disseminate your research at conferences and industry events.

You will be working with expert faculty researchers and talented undergraduate students from Sheridan College and an international world-class team of academics, post-doctoral researchers, PhD students, and master’s students from McMaster University. Our research group has a strong track record of collaboration with industry. You will also be working closely with industry and community partners.

This Postdoctoral Researcher position is 1 year in duration with the potential of renewal for 2 additional years.

Sheridan’s Centre for Applied AI is an internationally recognized research centre in Mobile Health (mHealth) that creates innovative solutions to industry-relevant challenging problems in collaboration with our industry, community, and academic partners.  We use leading technologies: Mobile, AI/Machine Learning/Deep Learning, Augmented/Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Wearables, and IoT.

Campus Location: Trafalgar campus (Oakville) with some travel to McMaster University, as required. 
Work Categorization: Hybrid Position | On-site at least 50% of the hours/week
Employee Group: Non-Teaching Academic
Hourly Rate: $33.65 – $40.06 + 4% in lieu of benefits and vacation.
Hours/Week: Up to 24 hours
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (days and hours flexible depending on candidates’ availability).
