The Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT) at Sheridan College, is seeking a part time technical project lead to support the execution of applied research projects at the centre. The incumbent will work closely with industry partners, faculty and students. The candidate will guide participants through all aspects of applied research remotely or on campus, and report directly to the CAMDT manager. This is an exciting position that provides an excellent opportunity to interact with the Sheridan and Brampton community.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Guides all applied research projects through to successful completion while complying with all Sheridan, CAMDT and funding agency policy and procedure;
  • Facilitates weekly / biweekly project meetings between the industry partner, faculty and students;
  • Facilitates project meetings with industry partners and participates in all project activities including project scoping, budgeting, planning, proposal writing, project execution, purchasing, final report submission and team recruitment efforts;
  • Supports efforts to identify potential principal investigators and students;
  • Reports to the Manager of CAMDT of the status of ongoing applied research projects weekly; 
  • Supports the creation of process handbooks and documents outlining project best practices;
  • Ensures that Principal Investigators utilise the most up to date documentation (project proposal, SOW, etc.) to kick off new applied research projects; 
  • Ensures approval process is complete prior to project kick off; 
  • Provides subject matter expertise (in at least one of: Electronics prototyping, IOT, Sensor Integration, embedded systems) to assist faculty researchers and industry partners with the development of project scope, resource needs, appropriate milestones, and quantified deliverables; 
  • Ensures projects are fully completed and contractual obligations are fulfilled including project close-out documents and final reports;
  • Engages with facilities, Occupational Health and Safety, Research Office, Coop Office to support project execution where necessary.

Your organizational skills allow you to effectively balance many different tasks and develop processes or systems to keep things running smoothly.

You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and enjoy presenting ideas to others.

The successful candidate will also possess the following qualifications: 

  • Project management experience and sound understanding of project management principles and tools
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in a technical field
  • Experience working in an applied research environment
  • Experience with Asana, Pipedrive or equivalent project management and CRM software would be an asset
  • Experience with Electronics Prototyping, Voltera Circuit Printing, EagleCAD, Firmware development, sensor integrations, IOT and/or other technologies relevant to the manufacturing environment
  • PMP certification is an asset

Hourly Rate: $35.21/hour + 4% in lieu

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 9:00am – 3:30pm
