Manager, Equity and Inclusion

Reporting to the Director, Human Rights and Equity Initiatives, the Manager, Equity and Inclusion works as a senior employee of the Centre for Equity and Inclusion (CEI) team. The Manager provides professional advice, training, education and consultations in matters relating to human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion to all members of the Sheridan community. The Manager develops, coordinates and delivers programs, policies and initiatives that support Sheridan’s organizational and legislative commitments relating to human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion. 

The Manager also supports CEI’s dispute resolution process and collaborates with the Director and CEI staff to receive, resolve, investigate and address discrimination, harassment and human rights concerns and complaints from faculty, staff or students.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Supporting the Director, CEI Team Members and external investigators in case management, investigations/assessments, informal mediation, facilitated resolution, mentorship/coaching, recommendations and reporting relating to alleged human rights violations, acts of discrimination and/or harassment
  • Providing expert consulting advice on and serves as a resource for human rights, discrimination and harassment issues to all members of the Sheridan community
  • Identifying trends and providing analysis to the Director to identify systemic barriers in service delivery and the workplace and recommending appropriate removal mechanisms 
  • Developing policies and guidelines on matters related to the portfolio; ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations and Sheridan policies / procedures related to the portfolio
  • Managing the development and implementation of programs, policies, guidelines and training following extensive research and stakeholder engagement on human rights and social justice areas impacting education and employment 
  • Developing, coordinating, facilitating and delivering educational awareness programs in areas of human rights, discrimination, harassment, equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Providing guidance on communications strategies internally and externally to ensure current and timely information/education is available for all members of the Sheridan community
  • Supporting the development and delivery of learning programs to ensure all staff are aware of their rights and responsibilities under human rights legislation, other applicable legislation, and the Sheridan policies of which CEI has ownership
  • Maintaining current knowledge in Human Rights, Diversity and Inclusion field(s) of expertise - with respect to changes in legislation/regulations, emerging trends in practices and complaint resolution / tribunal processes, and about tools and practices of change leadership

About You

The successful candidate will possess a 4-year Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Human Resources, Law, Psychology, Business or other relevant field along with a minimum of 5 years leadership experience managing human rights issues, workplace harassment functions, preferably in multi-union environment(or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience).  In addition, the successful candidate will possess:

•    A demonstrated track record in successful dispute resolution and promotion of human rights  
•    Proven success in obtaining cooperation and innovative solutions to complex problems
•    Experience working in a matrix environment, building relationships with senior leaders
•    Demonstrated experience and competence in developing targeted training to diverse groups
•    Knowledge of current trends, legislation, acts and regulations in Human Rights, workplace harassment and labour/management issues
•    Experience in developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures
•    Knowledge, skill and experience in mediation, investigations, and group facilitation
•    Research, analytical skills (including statistical analysis and interpretation)
•    Experience with complex report writing at a senior level

The successful incumbent will possess a high degree of political acuity and judgment along with highly developed communication skills and an ability to manage difficult and emotionally charged interactions.  They will have strong organizational and project planning skills, research and analytical skills and an open and creative approach to program solving.
